Field Ready Training Day: From First Aid to Field Work
Our dogs are far more than hunting companions—they are members of our families. Whether they spend their days in the field, on the water, exploring the outdoors, or simply traveling alongside us, we want to be prepared to care for them when they need us most.
Life outdoors in the South brings plenty of adventure, but it can also expose dogs to heat, wildlife, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and unexpected injuries. Knowing how to remain calm, recognize a problem, and provide immediate care can make an important difference while professional veterinary treatment is being reached. Preparation is not about expecting the worst; it is about enjoying every adventure with greater confidence.
On Saturday, September 26, Almost Heaven Plantation will host Field Ready Training Day: From First Aid to Field Work, featuring two highly respected sporting-dog professionals. Jackson Walker, DVM, founder of Gun Dog Solutions, will share practical, evidence-based guidance on canine emergencies, injury prevention, field first aid, and the essential supplies every dog owner should keep nearby. Dawson Cherry of Wildrose Carolinas will continue the afternoon with preseason and in-season training strategies designed to keep dogs healthy, steady, and performing at their best.
This special program is valuable for every dog owner—not only those with working or hunting dogs. We hope guests leave feeling informed, encouraged, and better equipped to care for the dogs who give so much to us.

Opening Day Essentials from the Pro Shop
One of the questions we receive most often before a hunt is, “What should I bring?” While our team is always happy to help guests prepare, there is one item we recommend above all others: a dependable pair of briar-proof chaps.
Our conservation efforts at Almost Heaven Plantation are centered on creating strong, protective habitat for our quail population. That means healthy native grasses, natural cover, and plenty of briars where coveys can settle and thrive. Some of the season’s most exciting finds happen in the thickest cover, and the right chaps allow you to follow the dogs, move comfortably through the course, and enjoy every opportunity your hunt provides.
Our Pro Shop carries Orvis briar-proof chaps in a variety of sizes and lengths, making it easy to find the right fit upon arrival. Blaze orange is also required on both the head and body of every hunter. Guests will find several options in the shop, including Almost Heaven ball caps, felt hats, orange hatbands, and a complete selection of Orvis shooting vests.
The right vest can make a tremendous difference in the field. We carry versatile styles suited for clay shooting, dog training, and quail hunting, along with traditional upland vests featuring room for water bottles, dog treats, shells, and harvested birds. Whether you arrive fully equipped or realize you have forgotten something, our team will help ensure you are ready before heading into the field.
Our new video offers a walkthrough of the Pro Shop and a closer look at several of the items available. While you are here, be sure to browse the boutique as well. From Almost Heaven apparel to distinctive gifts and sporting pieces, you may find something special to take home as a reminder of your visit.

A Season Worth Planning For
Quail season is quickly approaching, and preparations are well underway across Almost Heaven Plantation. Our team has begun its annual deep cleaning, guides and dogs are preparing for the field, equipment is being readied, and every detail is being considered to ensure our guests enjoy an exceptional 2026–2027 season.
This is also our busiest booking period, and available dates are becoming increasingly limited. Only a small number of dates remain for large groups, but we still have opportunities for half-day hunts, couples, and medium-sized parties. If you have been considering a visit, now is the time to begin planning.
November through February represents the heart of the season and includes many of our most requested dates. November brings the excitement of the season settling into full stride, while February offers beautiful conditions for one final winter trip before the season concludes. Guests hoping to visit during either month are strongly encouraged to inquire soon, particularly if overnight accommodations or multiple hunting days are part of the trip.
An Almost Heaven visit can be tailored to your group, whether you are planning a traditional quail hunt, an overnight sporting getaway, a corporate retreat, or time in the field with family and friends. Our team will be happy to discuss the remaining dates and help create an experience that fits your group.
For those who may not be ready to plan a full hunting trip, our seasonal calendar will also feature an exciting variety of special events, including sporting-dog programs, pheasant tower shoots, dinners, and other opportunities to experience Almost Heaven.
Prime dates are filling quickly. Contact our team today to begin planning your 2026–2027 visit. info@almostheavenplantation.com – 843-226-8640
